Kitchen Service Troubleshooting
If you run into some unexpected behavior, chances are that some setup is missing or incorrect. These are the most common pitfalls:
Problem | Action |
---|---|
Kitchen Service does not get information from web service |
Make sure that the Dynamics Business Central service tier is running. Restart it if necessary. Make sure that the Log On user on the Kitchen Service has access to the Dynamics Business Central Web Service. If this is the first usage of the Kitchen Service, make sure that the Enable OData Services is selected, and the Enable V4 Endpoint is selected in the Dynamics Business Central Server Administrator setup. If you are using SOAP, make sure that the Enable SOAP Service check box in the SOAP Services FastTab is selected, in the Dynamics Business Central Server Administrator setup. |
No KOTs appear on the Display Stations | Check that the Interval to poll Webservice from KDS has a value greater that zero. See How to: Set the Kitchen Service Configuration for more information. If this was the case, you must restart the Kitchen Service so it reads the new setting. |
Data not being updated after changes | You need to restart the Kitchen Service for it to reload the configuration data. If the Order Pane style has been changed, or the Line Display columns, the Display stations must be restarted as well. |
Display station not starting | Possibly there are no styles defined for the Display Station in Hospitality. Check if all settings for the Functional-, Style-, and Visual profiles are correctly set for the display stations. There should be defined at least an Order style and an Item style. |
Wrong display station selected for shortcut | If you selected the wrong display station or simply wish to change which display station your shortcut starts, you can manually edit the file C:\ProgramData\LS Retail\KitchenDisplayStation\Configuration-STATIONID.xml where STATIONID is the ID of the display station. This only applies if there are no parameters set in the shortcut target string, and there is a single display station running on the computer. If you are running more than one display station per computer, you must enter parameters in the shortcut target string. See for more information. |
Connection errors between display stations and Kitchen Service | See How to: Set Host File Entries When Running KDS in Environments Without a DNS. |
If nothing of the above helps solve your issues, you can take a look at the log files generated by the Kitchen Service and the display stations.
The log files for display station and Kitchen Service are located in the folder C:\ProgramData\LS Retail\Kitchen\Log.
The display station also logs to the Windows Event Log. If there are connecting issues, you may find it helpful to read through this log.
