Setting Up Attributes with Options

Attributes with options can be used as:

To set up attributes with Options

  1. Click the icon, enter Attributesand select the relevant link.
  2. Click the New action to create a new attribute.
  3. Fill in the fields on the General FastTab according to these guidelines:
Field Description
Code This field contains the code that identifies the attribute. You can use up to 20 characters.
Description The description of the attribute. You can use up to 50 characters.
Description (Customer)  Specifies the description of the attribute when facing the customer. Used for Allergens: customers are asked whether they have this type of allergy. For example: The Celery ingredient attribute has Description (Customer) Celery allergy. If not filled in, the Description field is used.
Display on POS This field indicates whether the attribute is displayed on the POS. The options are:
  • Yes - default option
  • No
Value Type
  • Option Value - predefined option values such as colors or fabrics.
  • Weighted Option - predefined option values such as Yes, No, Maybe where each value is assigned a weight (an integer value). When adding together weighted options from many items, the result is only one, the option with the highest weight. This is used for example for allergens attributes.
When the system needs to show the NUT attribute value for a recipe, it searches through the NUT attribute values of the recipe ingredients and returns the option value with the highest weight. If at least one ingredient has Yes (Yes has highest weight), the recipe has Yes as a NUT attribute value. If no ingredients have a Yes value, but at least one has Maybe (the second highest weight), the recipe has Maybe as a NUT attribute value and so on.

Note: If the attribute has been linked to records, you cannot change the value type of the attribute unless the change is from an Option Value to a Weighted Option and vice versa.

To insert option values for Option Value attributes

  1. In the Options FastTab, on a new line, enter the option value in the Option Value field.
  2. Repeat for the other options.
  3. To change the order of the options, select the line you want to move and click Manage - Move Up or Move Down.

To insert option values for Weighted Option attributes

  1. In the Options FastTab, on a new line, enter the option value in the Option Value field.
  2. In the Option Value (Cust.) field, enter the same or different option value. This applies to allergens attributes. See Setting up Allergens as Item Attributes.
  3. Enter a number in the Weight field. The option with the highest weight is the option shown when displaying attribute values for many items at a time. A 0 value is displayed as blank in this field.
  4. If desired, select the Hide Value on POS check box. A hidden option value is a blank value. This is useful, if you want to reduce the amount of information shown in the attribute panels on the POS. Example: For attribute Nuts, the option value No is hidden on the POS. When showing Nuts for a journal line or the whole journal, the value No does not appear. Only values Maybe and Yes appear in the panel.
  5. Select the Hide Value for Customer field, if this option is irrelevant for the customer. This applies to allergens attributes. See Setting up Allergens as Item Attributes.
  6. Repeat for the other options.
  7. To change the order of the options, select the line you want to move and click Manage - Move Up or Move Down.

Note: When an attribute is used to sort the items and deals in a dynamic menu, the order of the options as they appear for the attribute is the order sorted by. The alphabetical order of the attribute option values does not apply. Therefore, moving option values up and down until you find the right order is important when the attribute is used for sorting purposes.

Note: You can change and delete option values even if they are already assigned to records. You can also edit the Weight for weighted options. The system will update the values accordingly.
